International Jury grants BEST COLLABORATION AWARD 2010
Awards are granted to five successful collaborations
Bremen, 14. September 2010. The special collaboration between traditional industries and the creative industries was the main focus of interest of a new international prize awarded within the project ‘Creative City Challenge’ for the first time on the 21st of October 2010 in Kortrijk.
Companies applied for the BEST COLLABORATION AWARD from the field of: Advertising, Architecture, Arts and Antique Markets, Crafts, Design, Communication Design, Fashion Design, Film, Video, Photography, Software, Computer Games and Electronic Publishing, Music and the Visual and Performing Arts, Publishing, Television and Radio. The BEST COLLABORATION AWARD is one of the transnational work packages realized by WFB Economic Development Bremen GmbH as the partner from Bremen in collaboration with further 13 partners from 6 countries from the North Sea Region within the project ‘Creative City Challenge’.
The object was to find examples of collaboration with unconventional results beyond traditional business relationships.
On the 3rd of September 2010 a distinguished jury decided as follows:
The first prize goes to the project ‚Kunstgreb’ which was established by Wischmann Innovation, an agency from Copenhagen together with Dansk Artist Foundation ‚Kunstgreb’. ‚Kunstgreb’ deploys artists in traditional enterprises, thus making them more professional and bridging a gap between culture and economy. Prizeotel, led by Marco Nussbaum and Dr. Matthias Zimmermann in Bremen/Germany, ranks second and was only recently awarded the Bremen Founder Award. The unique thing about it is that the star architect Karim Rashid from New York developed the complete branding in terms of ‘Designocrasy’: Top-class design at a reasonable price for everyone. Kunsthalle Bremen/Germany ranks third: The jury members were convinced by the beneficial cooperation between the long-established institution from Bremen and the traffic network Bremen/Niedersachsen (VBN - Verkehrsverbund Bremen/Niedersachsen GmbH). Visitors to the exhibition ‚Paula in Paris’ could buy their exhibition ticket together with their VBN ticket. Denmark’s Rock-Museum and the Music Library in Roskilde formed an inspiring partnership which was awarded number 4 by the jury. The focus is not only loan, but experiencing music through exhibitions, lectures and interactive musical elements. Architect Salinger, his office based in Oldenburg/Germany, entered a transnational partnership and was awarded place 5: Together with Christoph de Jongh, artist from Groningen/Netherlands, Salinger developed modular and mobile architecture accommodating offices and apartments temporarily or permanently.
The jury of four consisted of Julie Vandenbroucke, President of Arteconomy, Ledegem/Belgium, Dr. Ron von Gent, Regional Director of MKB- Netherlands North/Groningen, Prof. Stuart MacDonald, Director von Creative Frontline, Glasgow/Great Britain, and Erik Wankerl, Creative Director of Red Pepper, Bremen/Germany.
The project ‘Creative City Challenge’ analyses challenges and barriers confronting the creative sector in the North Sea Region. The analysis aims to develop an effective strategy supported by a range of instruments and methods which would help sustainably support the creative industries in the North Sea Region. The goal of the project is to create competitive, innovation-based urban and regional economies in the North Sea Region, in line with the objectives of the EU Lisbon Agenda 2000.
‘Creative City Challenge’ is a transnational collaboration. The project partners come from 13 cities and 6 countries. They comprise representatives of the public services, academic institutions and industry. The collaboration relies on intensive exchanges between the project partners and partner cities as well as stakeholders from all sectors of the creative industry.
